Open letter to European leaders


Dear Sirs and Madams,

Zeynab Jalalian, a 27-year old Iranian Kurdish woman who has spent several years in Iranian prisons, has been condemned to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic Iran on charges dating 12 years ago when Jalalian was only 15 years old. Press reports from inside Iran indicate that Jalalian is going to be hanged in near future.
We call on all governments maintaining diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran to request the appearance of the Iranian diplomatic representatives and bring forward an official demand to stop the execution of Zeynab Jalalian. Hanging this political prisoner would not only mark the continuation of the brutal suppression against critics in Iran, but also violate Iran’s international obligations to abandon the execution of persons on charges from a time when the convict was a minor.
